Job summary

Job description

Tends one or more machine tools, special purpose machines, or industrial robots to machine metal work pieces to specifications on a production basis by performing the following duties.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lifts a work piece manually or using a hoist and secures the work piece in a fixture or loads an automatic feeding device.

Starts the machine, engages the feed, and observes the operation.

Inspects and gauges machined work pieces to verify conformance to specifications.

Moves machine controls and guides to adjust the machine.

Replaces worn machine accessories such as cutting tools or brushes.

Adds coolant to the machine reservoir and turns the valve to start flow of coolant.

Files, sands, or shapes machined parts.

Cleans machined parts.

Tends machines and equipment other than machine tools.

Ensures that the company produces quality products and has the authority to stop production in order to correct quality problems.

Follows environmental policies and procedures and communicates concerns and issues to management.

Other duties may be assigned.

IV. JOB SPECIFICATIONS
A. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

High School / GED Diploma Required.

No prior experience or training is required; however, previous manufacturing experience will aid performance within the first few months.

Ability to comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

Ability to add and subtract.

Ability to perform these operations using units of weight, volume, and distance.

Ability to apply common‑sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
