Job description

Summary

The Operator is responsible for the manufacture of parts per manufacturing unit specifications in an accurate and timely manner utilizing manual and semi-automatic machine centers. Operates one or more standard or special purpose production machines for various operations. Generally close tolerance work where dimensional and finish requirements are not difficult to maintain due to nature of tooling and machine setups.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Observe and follow safety rules as prescribed by the safety policies, including wearing required PPE.
  • Complete an expected amount of work based on time studies in accordance with schedule.
  • Operate all necessary equipment in a proficient manner.
  • Operate and adjust manual, semi-automatic or automatic numerically controlled machine equipment to perform standard and repetitive sequences of operations.
  • Operate one or more standard or special purpose production machines for various operations.
  • Perform close tolerance work where dimensional and finish requirements are not difficult to maintain due to nature of tooling and machine setups.
  • Check work at specified points.
  • Adjust machine to maintain finish and tolerance requirements.
  • Work from part drawings and use required precision measuring instruments to check and inspect work.
  • Recognize and report machine malfunctions, tooling difficulties, etc.
  • May assist with setups or proving of program.
  • Under supervision, work procedures and products are subject to check and inspection.
  • Meet with engineers to discuss potential machine problems.
  • Observe and follow safety rules.
  • Maintain clean work area.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, additional training from trade school preferred.
  • Requires 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Requires a general knowledge of tooling applications.
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints, specifications and routings.
  • Requires mathematical skills that require the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform geometric, algebraic and trigonometric calculations.
  • Must perform metric conversions.
  • Requires good oral and written communication skills in order to interact with employees.
