Job summary

Globe Composite Solutions seeks a CNC Machinist for the second shift (3:30pm–12:00am) with a 20% shift differential. Responsibilities include planning machining from drawings, setting up mills and lathes, verifying parts, and maintaining safety and quality. The role requires 1–3 years CNC experience, basic math, and ability to read QC docs.

Physical stamina is needed to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a noisy environment. Training and growth opportunities available in a dynamic shop.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years CNC machine operation experience.
  • Understanding of tool holders and tool types.
  • Knowledge of feed and speed settings and tool path_following.
  • Good math and data entry skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan machining by studying work orders, GD&T and blueprints.
  • Set up mills and lathes with fixtures and tooling.
  • Load stock, run first parts, and verify measurements.
  • Maintain safety and quality during milling, drilling, and turning.
  • Document production and quality logs; troubleshoot issues.
  • Support and train others as needed.

Job description

Second Shift: 3:30pm- 12:00am
Plus 20% Shift Differential
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS* - Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, reference planes, locations of surfaces and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Sets up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting chucks, tool attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops and pushers.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing milling, drilling, grooving and cutting, including turning facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprogramming controls; identifying and sharpening/replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for needed repairs.
  • Maintains continuity by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Ability to assist and direct the cutting, machining, and configuration of complex block layouts prior to bonding to achieve final dimensional requirements.
  • Adhere to Business Management System requirements
General
  • Conducts night time shutdown of machinery
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area and general housekeeping
Typical Equipment Used
  • 3 or more axis machining center

  • Carts, dollies and other heavy weight moving equipment
Other Duties And Responsibilities
  • Ability to train employees in the routine operation of the CNC in order to function as a back-up and/or additional shift coverage operator.
  • Other related duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-3 years of experience in CNC machine operation
  • Demonstrated understanding of tool holders and tool types

  • Ability to operate equipment (mixers, transfer tanks, ovens, saw, planer, lathe, milling, tumbler, dust collector, hand tools, fork lift)
  • Ability to read and understand QC inspection documentation
  • Visual acuity to identify surface quality defects 1/32” and larger
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Regular exposure to noise, dust, high heat and chemicals
  • Regular exposure to fumes or airborne particles
  • Frequent reaching with hands and arms
  • Constant standing and use of hands while performing essential functions of the job
