Job summary

Sunbelt Solomon in Sharon, PA is seeking a Machine Operator to set up, operate, and monitor winding machines for transformer coils. You will read work orders and blueprints, verify coil dimensions, and ensure quality and safety standards are met.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED is preferred.
  • OSHA 10 certification is preferred.
  • 1 year experience in paint manufacturing is preferred.
  • 1 year experience with material handling equipment (forklift, crane, etc.) preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic hand tools preferred.
  • A proven safety track record is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders.
  • Meet department and production goals set by supervisor.
  • Ensure product quality meets company and client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate automatic or manual winding machines to wind copper wire for transformer coils.
  • Load wire reels, adjust guides, tensioners, and traverse mechanisms to ensure consistent winding.
  • Monitor machine operation to detect malfunctions or defects and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Interpret work orders, blueprints, and technical drawings to determine coil dimensions, wire size, turns, insulation layers, and winding patterns.
  • Apply insulation and taping materials between winding layers as specified.
  • Ensure proper layering, spacing, and alignment throughout the winding process.
  • Inspect finished windings for defects, dimensional accuracy, and conformity to specifications.
  • Use measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures) to verify coil dimensions.
  • Record data on production logs, quality reports, or digital systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance on winding machines, such as lubrication and minor adjustments.
  • Report equipment issues, safety hazards, or nonconforming materials to supervisors promptly.
  • Work with engineers, material handlers, and quality control personnel to resolve production or quality issues.
  • Participate in training programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including wearing PPE, respirator, gloves, safety glasses, etc.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly workstation and area.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.

Job description

The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring winding machines used in the production of transformer coils. This role requires a strong understanding of winding techniques, precision, and the ability to interpret work orders and technical drawings to ensure that coils are wound to the correct specifications. Compliance with all safety requirements, product quality standards and company policies are essential functions of this role. The hours are Friday-Sunday 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

Physical Requirements
  • Lift 50 lbs from floor to waist and waist to shoulder multiple times.
  • Stand and walk for long durations.
  • Bend, squat, and kneel multiple times for long durations.
  • Climb up and down a ladder multiple times.
  • Balance and stand on a ladder with three points of contact for extended periods of time.
  • Comfortably work in the heat and cold due to manufacturing facilities not being climate controlled.
