Facilities-Resource-Group in Comstock Park, MI is seeking a Machine Operator 1st shift to run automated CNC saws, drills and a laser welder. You will read blueprints, set up tools, monitor quality and maintain safety in a temperature-controlled, well-lit facility.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–2 years of recent experience with automated CNC machines.
  • Ability to read and apply blueprints, design drawings, spec sheets.
  • Strong shop math skills and measurement proficiency.
  • Willingness to follow safety PPE requirements and procedures.
  • Reliable, team-oriented with good attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate IPG ABB laser welding co-bot on aluminum, copper and steel.
  • Operate MIG wire welder for aluminum and steel.
  • Read cut lists and work instructions to set up CNC saws, routers and drills.
  • Inspect welds and parts for tolerances using calipers and micrometers.
  • Support engineering during trials and process improvements.

MACHINE OPERATOR 1ST - Automated CNC Saws, Drills & Laser Welder ( Full Time - Comstock Park, MI )



  • PAY: $20 - $24 / hour to start (based on experience)

  • LOCATION: Comstock Park, MI

  • SHIFT: 1st Shift - Mon - Thurs, 6 am - 4:30 pm; Fri as scheduled(currently working Fri 6 am -4:30 pm)

  • Temperature controlled, well-lit, modern facility


SUMMARY:

This role works closely with engineering and production, requires strict adherence to safety protocols, excellent mechanical aptitude, focused attention to detail, a strong grasp of shop math, demonstrated proficiency in safe machine operations, the ability to read and work from blueprints or drawings, excellent problem solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced atmosphere.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


  • Consistently adheres to all shop safety protocols and Company policies.

  • Reads and applies information from technical manuals, blueprints, design drawings, cut lists and/or written work instructions to set up and operate shop equipment, i.e.:

    • IPG ABB laser welding co-bot (on aluminum, copper and steel)

    • MIG Wire welder (on aluminum and steel)

    • CNC upcut saw

    • CNC router

    • CNC tubing bender

    • CNC T-drill collaring machine

    • CNC drill

    • Drill presses, table saws, plasma cutters, grinders and other ancillary equipment, as needed



  • Operates teach pendant to set up or adjust program tool paths and touch points for running jobs.

  • Monitors laser welder beam delivery and weld pooling and adjusts laser parameters (i.e., focal length, feed systems, gas flows, etc.), as needed, promptly identifying and taking corrective action for any minor alignment, path, feed, or material discrepancies that should occur.

  • Consistently demonstrates accuracy and proficiency with measuring tools (i.e., tape measures, straight edges, squares, calipers, micrometers, feeler gauges, depth gauges or drill gauges).

  • Creates jigs and fixtures to clamp, hold, weld, bend, cut, grind, or bolt components.

  • Measures, lays out, fits up, loads, positions and unloads parts.

  • Inspects finished welds and parts using visual inspection and precision measurement tools to ensure adherence to specifications and accuracy of tolerances.

  • Supports engineering team during R&D engineering trials, projects or FIOPs, as requested.

  • Troubleshoots and identifies potential causes of rejected parts or equipment issues, and communicates those results to engineering, production and/or purchasing in a timely manner.

  • Performs basic periodic preventative machine maintenance.

  • Continuously monitors scrap and recommends ways to minimize scrap output.

  • Finishes and/or grinds parts, as necessary.

  • Operates forklift to move materials or parts, as needed.

  • Keeps work area safe, organized, clean and free of clutter.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION:


  • Must be of legal hiring age, have valid driver's license and be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship

  • High school diploma or equivalent education required

  • Willingness and ability to adhere to all safety protocols and PPE requirements.

  • Ability to read and apply information from technical manuals, blueprints, design drawings, spec sheets and/or written work instructions

  • Strong shop math skills to proficiently read and interpret gauges to .001 and tape measures to nearest 1/64\", as well as add and subtract using fractions, perform decimal conversions, calculate linear measurements and determine circumference, diameter, radius, etc.

  • Minimum 1-2 years of recent work history involving operation and set-up of automated CNC machines, ideally those used for laser welding, cutting and/or drilling.

  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem‑solving abilities

  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic needed

  • Ideal candidates will be mechanically inclined with interest in learning more about robotics, teach pendant setup and GMAW hand wire MIG welding
