Job summary

IHI Connectors in Mentor, Ohio is hiring a machine operator with mechanical aptitude to set up, run, and fix its multispindle machines that produce aluminum electrical connector parts. You will install tooling, align bars, monitor tooling wear, and ensure first-piece quality with QC checks.

No machine operator experience is required if you have mechanical experience with basic tools, engines, cars, motorcycles, or farm equipment. Vehicle mechanics and millwrights are a strong fit.

Responsibilities

• Set up: install tooling per the setup sheet, line up the bar, grease tapping units, check taps for chips or breaks, set coolant lines, warm the machine, and have QC check the first pieces.
• Run: load stock, listen for chatter, gauge parts with calipers, micrometers, and thread gauges while the machine cuts, clear chips, log counts and scrap.
• Fix: adjust to hold tolerance, change tooling, diagnose by sound and measurement; work with multispindle heads, hydraulic clamps, bar feeds, saws, tapping units.
• Hand off: wash down the machine, inspect tools for chips, write what the next operator should watch for.

What you do

• Set up: install tooling per the setup sheet, line up the bar, grease the tapping units, check the taps for chips or breaks, set the coolant lines, warm the machine, have QC check the first pieces.
• Run: load stock, listen for chatter and changed sounds (a dulling tool, a chip problem, a saw problem), gauge parts with calipers, micrometers, and thread gages while the machine cuts, clear chips, log counts and scrap.
• Fix: adjust to hold tolerance, change tooling, diagnose by sound and by measurement. Multispindle heads, hydraulic clamps, bar feeds, saws, tapping units.
• Hand off: wash down the machine, inspect tools for chips, write what the next operator should watch for.

Who fits

No machine operator experience required if you have mechanical experience with basic tools. Engine, car, motorcycle, farm equipment, or machinery repair counts. If you can tear it down, diagnose it, and put it back together, you can learn this machine. Vehicle mechanics, millwrights, and engine or hydraulic rebuilders are a strong fit.

Facts

• 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift. $2.00 per hour premium on 2nd and 3rd.
• Full time. Some critical work centers run 48 hours per week. Hours over 40 are paid at 1.5x.
• Pass our mechanical aptitude test with 80% or better. The short test takes about 20 minutes, taken on site.
• New shop hires start through a temp agency before being hired direct.

• Stand 6+ hours; lift 35-pound bars routinely and 50 pounds once or twice a week.
