Job summary

Five Star Holding in Houston seeks a Machine Operator in the Ultrapak department to operate and monitor plastic processing machinery and produce high-quality plastic products. Experience with Stand Up Pouch, Longitudinal, Flat Bottom, Box Pouch, and other packaging machines is beneficial.

You will setup machines, perform jams, adjust settings, conduct quality checks, document production, and train new associates.

Qualifications

Job description

Overview

The Machine Operator in the Ultrapak department operates and monitors plastic processing machinery to produce high-quality plastic products. This role benefits from experience operating a variety of packaging machines including Stand Up Pouch, Longitudinal, Flat Bottom, Box Pouch, three-side seal, Half Fold Fusion, and Center Press Seal machines.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure adherence to Safety, Food Safety and Quality parameters across the plant.
  • Report any incidents or unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately.
  • Lead by example to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Set up and operate plastic processing machinery (e.g., injection molding machines, extruders, blow molding) according to standard operating procedures.
  • Perform job roll changes, clear jams, and adjust machine settings to maintain acceptable quality pouch production.
  • Operate complex bag machines, troubleshoot, and make minor adjustments as needed.
  • Clear machine jams and report to the process lead.
  • Supply necessary raw materials to the machine and scan/label finished product boxes.
  • Identify and remove defects found in production; conduct quality checks to ensure compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Use Auto Count, Blue Line and Fast Field software correctly.
  • Keep track of work-in-process at each shift change and follow work instructions for inspection, production, and operations.
  • Fill out production and inspection reports with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Maintain a clean and organized assigned area; follow housekeeping standards and the 5S methodology.
  • Perform tasks with urgency and accuracy; conduct other duties as assigned by management.
  • Train new associates as needed.

Experience
  • Preferred experience in manufacturing and operating different types of machines.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to operate basic tools and measuring devices (e.g., tape measure, scale).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate and interpret instructions.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily on the manufacturing floor; exposure to loud noises, machinery, high temperatures, and chemicals may occur.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
