Position Overview

The Machine Operator is responsible for upholstering cornice boards with fabric and cording.

What you'll do
  • Adhere to all safety rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Report unsafe practices, conditions, and near misses to supervisors.
  • Wear and maintain proper personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses and gloves.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Follow emergency evacuation procedures and report unsafe conditions.
  • Cut and upholster over treatments for various styles (e.g., Statler, Astor, Waldorf, Sheraton, Box).
  • Pad, cover, glue, tack, line, and trim boards.
  • Properly place and dress swags, cover legs, and blind tack returns.
  • Package and record completed treatments.
  • Receive and process work tickets with coordinating fabric bolts.
  • Cut fabric and cord material to specified dimensions and patterns.
  • Sew welting and label all cut pieces for further fabrication.
  • Cut and prepare fabric and lining for swags and panels.
  • Sew, turn, press, pleat, and band swags.
  • Record information in logs and prepare materials for fabricators.
  • Maintain regular attendance and work in a production environment.
  • Remain stationary or stand for extended periods (up to seven hours or more per shift).
  • Operate hand tools, pneumatic staples, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Lift or carry materials as needed.
  • Wear closed-toe and closed-heel shoes (tennis shoes preferred).
  • Use safety glasses that meet ANSI Z87.1+ standards.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to support production and safety goals.
Who you are
  • High school graduate
  • Able to use and read a tape measure
  • General knowledge of fabrics
  • Ability to use hand tools
  • Successfully pass color blind test
  • Accuracy with names, numbers, and spelling
  • Capable of standing for extended periods
  • Capable of lifting on a continuous basis
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Follow written and verbal instructions
