Job summary

Spherion Staffing, LLC is seeking a Machine Operator for a fast-paced food production facility in Fort Wayne, IN. You will run assigned machinery, maintain SOPs, and support sanitation, safety, and GMP standards.

The role emphasizes teamwork, line rotations, and meeting daily targets. Candidates should have at least 1 year in high-speed manufacturing, basic process knowledge, and the stamina to work in wet, cold environments with PPE.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical aptitude to operate automations and perform basic diagnostics/troubleshooting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to coordinate with the team and provide clear handovers.
  • Strong math and problem-solving to manage production parameters and data.
  • Must stand for long periods, lift/reach frequently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working in wet, humid, noisy, and cold refrigerated environments with required PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, de-kit, and store equipment; report mechanical faults to Maintenance.
  • Drive the manufacturing process to meet daily, weekly, and monthly output goals.
  • Coordinate local work team efforts, including managing breaks, lunches, and line rotations.
  • Sanitation: keep machines organized and free of water buildup without causing damage.
  • Participate in GMP, hygiene, and safety audits to improve scores.
  • Monitor process to reduce rejections and minimize packaging waste.
  • Own tasks from start to finish and seek continuous improvement.

Machine Operation
  • Run assigned machinery within required parameters and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Technical Maintenance
  • Correctly set up, de-kit, and store equipment; troubleshoot and report mechanical faults to Maintenance and incoming shifts.
Production Targets
  • Drive the manufacturing process to meet daily, weekly, and monthly output goals.
Shift Leadership
  • Coordinate local work team efforts, including managing breaks, lunches, and line rotations.
Responsibilities
  • Sanitation: Follow "clean as you go" principles, ensuring machines are organized and free of stagnant water without causing water damage to equipment.
  • Safety Culture: Maintain a positive safety culture, ensuring all health and safety requirements are met to reduce year-over-year accidents.
  • Audit Readiness: Participate in GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), hygiene, and safety audits to ensure consistent score improvements.
  • Waste Reduction: Monitor the process to reduce rejections and minimize packaging waste.
  • Ownership: Treat the facility with the same care as one?s own home and take full responsibility for tasks from start to finish.
  • Continuous Improvement: Seek diverse perspectives to improve efficiencies and value open dialogue regarding operational failures and successes.

5:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Skills
  • Industry Experience: At least one year of related experience in a high-speed manufacturing or food production facility.
  • Process Knowledge: Basic technical knowledge of ice cream production or similar food manufacturing processes.
  • Safety & Quality Training: Previous exposure to GMP standards and food safety regulations.
  • Leadership: Experience managing small team dynamics, such as coordinating rotations and shift hand-offs.
