Job Summary:

The Machine Operator is responsiblefor safely operating powered industrial equipment (sit-down/stand-up forklifts, loaders) to move heavy, bulky materials, while also setting up and operating machinery (saws, routers, grinders, drills) to process metal or lumber to specifications. This role includes loading/unloading trucks, managing inventory via scans, and ensuring a safe, clean work environment.

Core Responsibilities

• Forklift Operation:Operate heavy-duty forklifts (18,000lb+ capacity frequently required in steel) to move structural steel, scrap metal, or timber. Load and unload flatbed trailers and containers.
• Machine Operation:Set up, adjust, and operate metal roll former machinery, custom trim machines to cut and shape materials to specifications.
• Material Handling:Transport raw materials to workstations and transfer finished products to staging areas.
• Safety & Compliance:Adhere to strict OSHA regulations and company safety procedures, including wearing PPE (safety boots, safety gloves)
• Maintenance & Quality Control:Perform daily pre-shift inspections of forklifts and machines. Inspect finished parts/lumber for accuracy using tape measures or calipers.
• Documentation:Maintain inventory records, cut sheets, daily activity logs, and any required production documentation.

Qualifications: Requirements and Qualifications

• Certification:Forklift Operator Certification will be issued on-site.
• Experience:1–2 years of experience operating heavy, high-capacity forklifts in a manufacturing or lumber environment preferred.
• Physical Strength:Ability to frequently lift, push, pull, and carry objects weighing 50–100 lbs.
• Technical Skills:Ability to read blueprints, work orders, and use measuring tools (tape measure, calipers); previous experience a plus.
• Stamina:Ability to stand for long periods and work in extreme temperatures.

• Environment:Loud, fast-paced factory setting with high-temperature variations.
• Hazards:Exposure to sparks, fumes, sharp metal, flying particles, and heavy moving equipment.
