Job summary

The Garland Company, Inc. is seeking a Machine Operator to oversee and optimize multiple machines during the entire production process. You will perform setups, load materials, adjust settings, and monitor output to ensure quality and efficiency.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma (technical certification preferred), strong attention to detail, and solid reading of specifications and manuals. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and meeting production goals in a dynamic plant

Job description

The Machine Operator is to be responsible for operating various types of machines throughout

the entire production process.

CORE & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
TASKS:
  • Perform machine setups to start a production cycle
  • Compile the necessary raw materials, ensure appropriate portions/measurements and place them in the machine as specified
  • Control and adjust the functions and settings of machines (e.g. values, speed) per the batch sheet specifications
  • Solve production issues, as necessary
  • Check output to discover any machine-related mistakes or flaws
  • Report to supervisor(s) regularly, keeping them updated on production activities and progress
  • Test the operation of machines periodically to guarantee their smooth running
  • Keep records of approved and defective units or final products
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

High school diploma or equivalent is required; a technical degree or relevant trade certification is

a plus. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job specific certification(s),

and experience (including military service) may be considered. Proven experience as a machine

operator preferred. Must possess the ability to read and interpret specifications, schematics, and

manuals, along with a strong working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and

measurement tools. Must possess a solid understanding of production procedures, analytical

skills, and strong attention to detail. Demonstrated teamwork, effective written and verbal

communication skills, and the ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with

co-workers are essential. Must be results-oriented, able to work effectively to meet or exceed

productivity goals, manage tight time constraints, and work both independently and within a

team environment. Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. constant use of protective

gear) is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to communicate orally in a clear, concise, and effective manner with co-workers,

company representatives, management, and staff in face-to-face, one-on-one, and group settings.

Sit, stand, and/or walk for extended time periods. The employee is required to sit, climb, balance,

carry, push, pull, reach, and adjust body position to bend, stoop, walk, turn, pivot, sit, and stand

for long periods of time. The employee must frequently lift, maneuver, and/or pivot up to 50

pounds and occasionally lift, maneuver, and/or pivot up to 50 pounds with assistance. Read at,

above, and below shoulder height. Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch. Sufficient manual

dexterity required to operate equipment. Hearing and vision required to be within normal ranges.

Ability to accurately distinguish color variation. Ability to properly use Personal Protective

Equipment (PPE) as needed in designated areas and use necessary care to avoid placing self and

others in an unsafe environment. Normal range of tolerance to household and other types of

typical industrial/construction chemicals and solvents. The manufacturing plant is not climate

controlled. Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance at the facility.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, chemicals

and/or airborne particles, high pressure fluids, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Tolerate

inclement weather, including heat and cold.
