Job summary

TMD Staffing has a steel slitter machine operator opportunity in the East Houston, TX area. This in-person role requires operating and maintaining steel slitter machinery, loading coils, and ensuring production specs are met during the 10 PM–6 AM shift.

You will perform setup adjustments, monitor output, inspect products for defects, document quality records, and collaborate with the production team to meet daily goals.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required or preferred.
  • Experience operating steel slitter machines or similar industrial equipment.
  • Experience in steel manufacturing or metal fabrication.
  • Ability to read work orders and technical documents.
  • Experience using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures, gauges).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to lift and move steel materials safely.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Operate steel slitter machinery to process coils per production specs.
  • Set up and adjust slitter machines, including tooling and blades.
  • Perform changeovers and verify setup accuracy before production.
  • Load/unload steel coils with material handling equipment.
  • Monitor operation and adjust for quality and efficiency.
  • Inspect finished products for defects and compliance.
  • Measure thickness, width, and dimensions with calipers and micrometers.
  • Troubleshoot basic machine issues and report to maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate production records and quality paperwork.
  • Follow safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
  • Keep work area clean and organized; assist with packing finished goods.
  • Meet daily production goals and deadlines with the team.

Steel Slitter Machine Operator for a steel company in the East Houston, TX Area

WORK ENVIRONMENT: In-Person, Industrial/Steel Manufacturing Environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate steel slitter machinery to process steel coils and materials according to production specifications.
  • Set up and adjust slitter machines, including tooling, blades, spacers, and machine settings for production runs.
  • Perform machine changeovers and verify setup accuracy before beginning production.
  • Load and unload steel coils using appropriate material handling equipment.
  • Monitor machine operation and make adjustments to ensure quality and production efficiency.
  • Inspect finished steel products for accuracy, defects, and compliance with customer specifications.
  • Measure material thickness, width, and dimensions using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other measuring tools.
  • Troubleshoot basic machine issues and communicate equipment concerns to maintenance or supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate production records, paperwork, and quality documentation.
  • Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and OSHA regulations while operating equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of materials.
  • Assist with packaging, labeling, and preparing finished steel products for shipment.
  • Perform routine machine checks and report any operational issues or maintenance needs.
  • Work closely with production team members to meet daily production goals and deadlines.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned to support safe and efficient steel manufacturing operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience operating steel slitter machines, coil processing equipment, or similar industrial machinery preferred.
  • Experience in steel manufacturing, metal fabrication, or industrial production environments preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, production instructions, and basic technical documents.
  • Ability to use measuring tools including tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic machine adjustments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot production issues and identify potential equipment problems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality products.
  • Ability to safely lift, move, and handle steel materials in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.

PAY RATE: $20 + depending on experience

SCHEDULE: 10PM-6AM
