As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will develop high-quality, production-ready models that are central to our decision-making processes, shaping our financial landscape. What you'll do

• Use Affirm’s proprietary and third-party data to develop models predicting default likelihood and making approval/decline decisions to meet business goals.
• Partner with platform and product engineering teams to build model training, decisioning, and monitoring systems.
• Research innovative solutions and develop prototypes to drive the future of credit decisioning at Affirm.
• Implement and scale data pipelines, features, and algorithms essential to our models.
• Collaborate with engineering, credit, and product teams to define requirements for new products.

What we look for

• Proficiency in machine learning, with experience in GLMs, Gradient Boosting, Deep Learning, and Probabilistic Calibration. Credit risk domain knowledge is a plus.
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
• Experience with distributed systems like Spark or Ray is a plus.
• Experience with open-source tools such as scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy, XGBoost, Kubeflow is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to drive requirements with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to present technical concepts clearly.
• Persistence, patience, and a strong sense of responsibility.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Pay Grade - J

Equity Grade - USA 5

Base pay ranges from $115,000 to $170,000 annually, depending on location and experience.

Affirm is a remote-first company, allowing most roles to be performed remotely within the U.S., with some roles requiring occasional office presence.
