About the Role
We're building production lines for a brand new fiber optic connector product driven by AI data center demand. Our in house automation team works like an internal system integrator: we design, build, program and commission custom semi automated equipment. We're looking for a mechanical engineer to design the machines, precision tooling and fixtures that make it happen. You'll take each design from whiteboard concept to deployed equipment and own the whole machine, not just one module.
What You'll Do
- Architect and design custom automated machinery, tooling, fixtures and semi automated solutions that improve cycle time, ergonomics, safety and quality
- Own the mechanical design of mechanisms, frames, multi axis motion systems, guarding and precision fiber handling tooling
- Apply GD&T, tolerance stack ups and DFM/DFA to build equipment that holds micron level tolerances
- Select and integrate pneumatics, motors, actuators, bearings, sensors and machine safety hardware
- Produce full design packages: 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions and maintenance documentation
- Lead prototyping, bench testing and process trials
- Build, debug, calibrate and validate equipment, and support FAT and equipment qualification
- Collaborate with our controls, vision and process engineers through design reviews and whiteboard sessions
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience (strong mid level engineers are also encouraged to apply)
- Advanced SolidWorks 3D CAD and detailing skills
- Proven experience designing custom automation equipment, capital equipment or complex electromechanical systems
- Solid working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), tolerance stack ups and precision machine design
- Hands on experience building, debugging and qualifying equipment in a manufacturing environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Unrestricted authorization to work in the US (no current or future sponsorship)
Nice to Have
- Fiber optics experience
- Exposure to PLCs, motion control, robotics or machine vision integration
- SolidWorks PDM or similar
- NPI, FAT/SAT or IQ/OQ/PQ experience
- Familiarity with machine safety standards such as ISO 13849 or ANSI B11
Why This Role
You'll design entire machines from a blank slate for a new product with a long roadmap ahead, and see your designs go from concept to running production lines.
