Job summary

Urschel, a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking a Machine Crater to join our Shipping team in Chesterton, Indiana. This full-time, day-shift role involves constructing, crating, and preparing standard and custom crates and packaging for domestic and international shipments.

Starting pay is $25.74/hour. The position requires a HS diploma and at least one year of related experience; you will work with Epicor and a team across Shipping and Production to ensure timely order fulfillment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in packaging, crating, shipping, manufacturing, warehouse ops, carpentry or related field.
• Basic carpentry skills and safe use of handheld power tools, power saws, and industrial trucks.
• Strong attention to detail, good judgment, and ability to work with measurements, weights, quantities, and shipping docs.

Responsibilities

• Package, crate, and prepare parts and equipment for domestic and international shipment.
• Review orders for accuracy; construct standard and custom crates; select packaging methods and materials.
• Operate hand tools, power saws, powered industrial trucks; ensure compliance with shipping requirements.
• Inspect packaging, stage and load shipments, complete shipping docs; use Epicor for job information.
• Communicate discrepancies and coordinate with Shipping, Production and other departments.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and perform other duties as assigned.

Urschel, a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking a Machine Crater to join our Shipping team. This full-time position is part of our day shift operation. The Machine Crater constructs, assembles, and prepares standard and custom crates, boxes, and other packaging materials to ensure products are protected and shipped safely. The position is regularly scheduled Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday work based on production needs.

Urschel employee-owners design and manufacture industrial cutting equipment for food processing and allied industries around the world from our global headquarters located in Chesterton, Indiana, U.S.A. Consumers purchase goods manufactured on Urschel cutting equipment on a daily basis. Advanced manufacturing technologies are utilized at our climate controlled, clean, and environmentally conscious facility.

Successful candidates will be responsible for packaging, crating, and preparing parts, machines, and equipment for domestic and international shipment. Responsibilities include reviewing orders for accuracy; constructing standard and custom crates; selecting appropriate packaging methods and materials; operating hand tools, power saws, powered industrial trucks, and other material-handling equipment; and ensuring compliance with customer, company, and shipping requirements. The position also inspects completed packaging, stages and loads shipments, completes shipping documentation, utilizes Epicor to access job-related information, communicates discrepancies, and works closely with Shipping, Production, and other departments to support accurate and timely order fulfillment. Candidates are expected to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and perform other duties as assigned.
