Job Description

Job Title: Machine Builder

This role focuses on building custom capital equipment from the ground up, including mechanical assembly, integration of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and installation of electrical components. You will work from complex, custom schematics and drawings to assemble, test, and troubleshoot machines to ensure they meet precise customer specifications and operate safely and reliably.

Responsibilities
  • Lay out, plan, and complete mechanical subassembly work on both large and small frame weldments for custom capital equipment.
  • Mount commercial components such as bearings, pneumatic components, and drive systems with a high degree of accuracy to meet close tolerance requirements, including bearing surface fits and machine bed surface assemblies.
  • Install and mechanically fasten electrical components to electrical panels and electrical enclosures according to drawings and schematics.
  • Work from pneumatic and hydraulic schematics, as well as written and verbal instructions and your own technical knowledge, to determine the correct location and placement of commercial components, pneumatic and hydraulic assemblies, machined parts, and fabricated parts.
  • Determine the optimal placement of assemblies and components to ensure proper function, serviceability, and compliance with design specifications.
  • Perform troubleshooting on mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues during assembly and testing, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, drills, conduit benders, pipe threading equipment, and measuring devices such as voltmeters, continuity testers, and test bench equipment to complete assembly and verification tasks.
  • Drill and tap holes accurately to support the mounting and alignment of components and assemblies.
  • Work safely with electrical systems in the 220-480 V range as part of machine build and testing activities.
  • Test completed machines to verify proper operation, confirm correct connections, and ensure compliance with customer specifications and safety standards.
  • Interpret and work from custom wiring diagrams and schematics, including complex configurations, to assemble and connect machine systems correctly.
  • Handle custom-built machines and unique configurations, adapting to varying designs and requirements for each customer project.
  • Lift and move components and assemblies, up to 30 pounds, as part of daily assembly tasks.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures and company standards during machine building and testing.
