Job summary

JR Automation, A Hitachi Group Company, is seeking a skilled Machine Builder in Holland, MI. You will assemble custom automated machinery from the ground up, including mechanical assembly, system integration, testing, and installation assistance as needed.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, and thrives in a fast-paced engineering environment with safety and quality as top priorities. Travel up to 20% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent.
  • Related vocational education preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency reading part and assembly drawings.
  • Current or prior JR Automation experience, or experience in the automation industry is strongly preferred.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude with a focus on safety and quality.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and travel up to 20%.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble equipment per mechanical drawings.
  • Document changes and communicate issues.
  • Operate with minimum direct supervision.
  • Follow ISO/Quality standards.
  • Coordinate with the Machine Build Lead on progress and issues.
  • Ensure cost, quality, timing, and customer satisfaction of programs.
  • Maintain organized and clean work area.
  • Assist with material preparation for secondary processes.
  • Operate Mill, Lathe, Drill Press, Surface Grinder, Saws, Shears, and Presses safely.

Location Type:This is an onsite position in Holland, MI.

Travel Requirements: Travel up to 20% Travel may include domestic and/or international customer, supplier, and JR Automation locations.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Machine Builder with strong mechanical aptitude and exceptional attention to detail, particularly regarding fit, finish, and high-precision assembly. In this role, you will be responsible for assembling custom automated machinery from the ground up. This includes mechanical assembly, system integration, testing, and assisting with installation as needed.

The ideal candidate takes pride in their craftsmanship, demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills, and thrives in a hands‑on, fast‑paced engineering environment.

How You’ll Make an Impact:
  • Assembly of equipment per mechanical drawings.
  • Ensure that changes and problems get documented and communicated.
  • Carry out assigned tasks with minimum direct supervision.
  • Execute ISO\Quality standards.
  • Communicate with the Machine Build Lead on open issues and progress during the buildprocess.
  • Successful execution of assigned programs as they relate to cost, quality, timing and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work area.
  • Assist with preparing material for secondary processes (material finishing, heat treat, and deburring).
  • Effectively and safely operate:
    • Mill
    • Lathe
    • Drill Press
    • Surface Grinder
    • Saws
    • Shears
    • Presses

What You’ll Bring:
  • Highschool diploma, or equivalent certification.
  • Related vocational education preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency reading part and assembly drawings.
  • Current or prior JR Automation experience, or experience in the automation industry is strongly preferred.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude with a focus on safety and quality.
  • Proven ability to accept direction and complete tasks as assigned while working as part of a team or individually.
  • Ability to maintain a steady pace while bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and climbing onto and beneath machines.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs. as required.
  • Ability to obtain a Hi-Lo (Forklift), Aerial Platform and Overhead Crane license, along with Lock Out Tag Out training, while employed at JR.
  • Ability to provide own hand tools and toolbox suitable for the job (a list of those recommended will be provided).
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time. This may include domestic and international travel depending on the project.
