Job summary

KHS is seeking a Machine Assembler at our Waukesha, WI facility. The role involves mechanically assembling machines by following engineering blueprints, BOMs, and verbal instructions to build sub-assemblies within production timelines.

Responsibilities include preparing part kits, following assembly steps, inspecting components, and ensuring correct operation of assembled machines. Candidates should read schematics, use hand tools safely, and communicate with shop leadership to maintain quality.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus at least two years of manufacturing assembly experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, review and prepare the kit of machine parts for assembly following drawings and bill-of-materials.
  • Assemble components, inspect parts, and prepare for testing.
  • May operate powered industrial tools or cranes for moving large components.
  • Drill, tap or ream holes and perform secondary machining as needed.
  • Align components, attach with hardware, and verify proper operation.
  • Install moving parts and verify gear/shaft functionality.
  • Follow 5S procedures to maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Communicate clearly with shop leads, production control or engineers.

The Machine Assembler assembles KHS machines mechanically by following engineering blueprints, other written specifications, and verbal instructions.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Receive, review and prepare the kit of machine parts for assembly; review and build manuals that include drawings and bill-of-materials; review instructions for assembly; arrange parts and materials for the machine to correspond to sales order specifications.
  • Receive part kits or shop orders for assembly, use drawings and bill of materials to follow assembly process. May use computerized Enterprise Resource Planning scan system and job orders for labor tracking.
  • Inspect and prepare parts. This may involve removing small quantities of metal to reduce sharp edges and or to produce a close fit between parts.
  • May become certified and use powered industrial trucks or cranes for moving large components or pallets of machine parts.
  • Drill, tap, or ream holes and perform other secondary machining operations in metal or plastic pieces using hand tools.
  • Align components and attach with bolts, screws or various hardware.
  • Install moving parts, such as gears, shafts, levers, or bearings, and verify correct operation of components.
  • Bend and install pipe or plastic tubing for pneumatic systems.
  • Align and mesh gears in gearbox to assemble system of gears.
  • Use a wide variety of precision measuring and gauging devices.
  • Test or assist in testing operation of completed product.
  • Know how to access ISO documents and use them.
  • Follow 5S procedures to keep work area clean and organized on a daily basis.
  • Communicate clearly with shop leads, production controls or engineers.
Your Profile:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, technical certificate for machining or other related discipline; two years of manufacturing assembly experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mechanical and technical ability to build sub-assemblies and machines corresponding precisely to engineering specifications within the stated production time frame
  • Demonstrates mastery of safe use of hand tools and other manufacturing equipment
  • Capable of reading and interpreting engineering schematic drawings.
