Job summary

KHS, a leading manufacturer, is seeking a skilled machine assembler to build sub-assemblies according to engineering drawings and BOMs at our Wisconsin facility. You will inspect parts, deburr edges, use hand tools, and, when certified, operate forklifts or cranes to align gear systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and BOMs.
  • Safe and proficient use of hand tools required.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, review and prepare the kit of machine parts for assembly; follow sales order specs.
  • Use drawings and BOMs to guide assembly; may use ERP and job orders for labor tracking.
  • Inspect parts and deburr edges to ensure proper fit; assemble sub-assemblies per specifications.
  • Install moving parts such as gears and bearings; verify correct operation.
  • Follow ISO documents and 5S procedures; communicate with shop leads and engineers.

Your Tasks:
  • Receive, review and prepare the kit of machine parts for assembly; review and build manuals that include drawings and bill-of-materials; review instructions for assembly; arrange parts and materials for the machine to correspond to sales order specifications.
  • Receive part kits or shop orders for assembly, use drawings and bill of materials to follow assembly process. May use computerized Enterprise Resource Planning scan system and job orders for labor tracking.
  • Inspect and prepare parts. This may involve removing small quantities of metal to reduce sharp edges and or to produce a close fit between parts.
  • May become certified and use powered industrial trucks or cranes for moving large components or pallets of machine parts.
  • Drill, tap, or ream holes and perform other secondary machining operations in metal or plastic pieces using hand tools.
  • Align components and attach with bolts, screws or various hardware.
  • Install moving parts, such as gears, shafts, levers, or bearings, and verify correct operation of components.
  • Bend and install pipe or plastic tubing for pneumatic systems.
  • Align and mesh gears in gearbox to assemble system of gears.
  • Use a wide variety of precision measuring and gauging devices.
  • Test or assist in testing operation of completed product.
  • Know how to access ISO documents and use them.
  • Follow 5S procedures to keep work area clean and organized on a daily basis.
  • Communicate clearly with shop leads, production controls or engineers.
Your Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, technical certificate for machining or other related discipline; two years of manufacturing assembly experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mechanical and technical ability to build sub-assemblies and machines corresponding precisely to engineering specifications within the stated production time frame
  • Demonstrates mastery of safe use of hand tools and other manufacturing equipment
  • Capable of reading and interpreting engineering schematic drawings.
