Job summary

NALHE is seeking a Nursing Assistant to provide patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or physician/advanced practice provider. The role includes observing, documenting, and assisting with treatments, medications, and care planning to support optimal patient outcomes.

The incumbent will perform a range of assigned nursing tasks, communications, and back-office functions, while maintaining safety, infection control, and compassionate service across all patient interactions.

Responsibilities

• Exhibits excellent patient and staff relations; courteous, compassionate, and respectful; adheres to department service standards.
• Provides therapeutic patient care under supervision within nursing scope.
• Transcribes orders from physicians/APNs according to policy.
• Communicates changes to plan of care with RN and assists in care planning.
• Administers medications per orders within scope.
• Performs treatments (catheters, IVs, suctioning, irrigations) following infection prevention policies.
• Follows disinfection and packaging policies.
• Performs vital signs, wound care, specimen collection, and patient instruction as needed.
• Assists clinicians during exams; prepares instruments and provides patient support.
• Observes and documents patient condition; identifies findings and initiates emergencies per policy.
• Administers and monitors IV therapy; notifies if issues arise.
• Performs venipuncture when needed.
• Collects and processes specimens per policy.
• Provides education per care plan; reports learning needs.
• Maintains cleanliness and equipment; ensures a safe environment.
• Uses effective verbal and non-verbal communication.
• Rotates to other departments as needed to uphold standards.
• Handles back-office workflows: closing care gaps, outreach, nurse visits.
• Participates in staff meetings and trainings.
• Assists with ordering and stocking supplies.
• Accepts orders from physicians/APNs.
• Supports patient communications and message management.
• Administers oxygen therapy and related respiratory procedures.
• Documents care in Health Connect per policy.
• Assists with other duties and onboarding.
• Coordinates discharge process.
• Works within licensed scope.
• Promotes outstanding customer service.
• Supports privacy, ethics, and compliance with laws and Kaiser policies.
• Ensures care across age groups via assessments.
