Job summary

Proper Hospitality is seeking a Director, Design & Technical Services to lead the design, development, and technical execution of projects across the portfolio. You will work closely with the VP of Architecture & Design and guide projects from concept through opening, ensuring luxury design and long-term performance.

This hands-on leadership role requires coordinating with owners, developers, architects, engineers, and hotel teams to maintain Proper’s design standards while delivering

Qualifications

• Approximately 10+ years of experience in architecture, design, development, or technical services.
• Demonstrated experience delivering complex luxury hospitality projects.
• Deep technical understanding of building construction and systems.
• Strong knowledge of MEP coordination, fire/life safety, accessibility, lighting, and related disciplines.
• Experience reviewing architectural, interior design, engineering, and construction documents.
• Strong understanding of hospitality planning (guestrooms, public areas, F&B, wellness, meeting spaces).
• Ability to work from programming through opening and post-opening.
• Strong knowledge of FF&E, materials, finishes, and detailing.
• Experience with renovation and CAPEX projects in operating hotels preferred.
• Familiarity with AI tools applied to design, documentation, visualization, and workflows.
• Excellent communication with executive leadership, owners, developers, designers, consultants, and hotel teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-growing organization.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior design and technical oversight for capital projects across the portfolio.
• Coordinate with owners, developers, architects, engineers, and consultants to resolve complex issues.
• Review design concepts, drawings, specs, RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings.
• Lead or oversee in-house design efforts for CAPEX projects.
• Ensure projects meet brand standards and operational performance.
• Support development opportunities and early-stage briefs.
