The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill is seeking a Lung Transplant Physician to care for inpatients and outpatients before and after lung transplants. This role requires strong collaboration skills and communication with various medical professionals.

Applicants must hold an MD or DO degree and be board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Critical Care Medicine. The ideal candidate should have fellowship training in pulmonary diseases and critical care, preferably with additional lung transplant training.

Position Summary

In this role, the selected candidate will act as a lung transplant physician, participating in the care of inpatients and outpatients before and after lung transplant, and as a pulmonary disease physician, attending to outpatients in a pulmonary subspecialty clinic, consulting on difficult inpatients, and being responsive to referring physicians. This role requires excellent communication, collaborative skills, and the ability to act as a close liaison with team members, including CT surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, fellows and residents, clinical pharmacists, social workers, clinical psychologists, and financial counselors. The role will also include regular communications with UNC Hospital and School of Medicine management. The candidate will report directly to the Division Chief and work cooperatively with the Medical Director of the Transplant team. Administrative duties involve co‑managing the Transplant Team with the Medical Director, overseeing other team members such as a coordinator, nurse practitioner, and rotating fellow, and assisting with outreach activities and educational clinics in the region.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants must hold an MD or DO degree and be BC/BE in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Critical Care Medicine.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Successful completion of fellowship training in pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine. Completion of an additional year of Lung Transplant Fellowship is preferred but not required.
