Hackensack Public Schools is seeking a Lunch Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year to supervise students during lunch and recreation periods. The role involves ensuring proper conduct and safety in classrooms, common areas, and the playground, with reporting of incidents.

The ideal candidate holds a High School Diploma, can relate well to students, demonstrates professionalism and confidentiality, and can pass a background check with proof of U.S. citizenship or residency.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students during the lunch period in the classroom and/or multi-purpose room and while at play on the playground, if applicable.
• Ensure that all students adhere to proper rules of conduct as determined by the administration.
• Ensure that appropriate safety standards in the classroom, the multi-purpose room and on the playground are adhered to by all students.
• Report infractions of the rules to the classroom teacher.
• Report all accidents to the nurse immediately and inform the classroom teacher as to what happened as soon as practical.
• Direct the movement of groups of students to and from the multi-purpose room, academic classrooms and/or the playground.
• Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Principal.

Working Conditions: Must be available 2.5 hours daily during breakfast/lunch hours at schools; Nellie K. Parker Elementary School

Salary: $22.00 per hour

Selection Procedure

Applications will be reviewed and interviews conducted, followed by recommendation made to the Acting Superintendent for Board approval.
