Job summary

The Research Engineering Scientist III at The University of Texas at Arlington manages the Luminescence Laboratory within the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department. Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in geology with two years of luminescence laboratory operations experience, or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Train laboratory visitors and students on sample preparation and measurements.
  • Develop SOPs with photos/videos documenting steps for routine lab methods.
  • Perform fee-for-service work on samples from external users, including research collaborators and government clients.
  • Develop and refine novel luminescence dating methods for geomorphology applications.
  • Troubleshoot Risø luminescence reader with technical staff; maintain equipment and field gear.
  • Assist with community outreach by organizing a 1-day workshop on hard rock applications of luminescence dating.
  • Translate MATLAB thermochronology functions into R for publication in the Luminescence package.
  • Migrate the existing sample database into Sparrow open-source data system.
  • Occasionally join field research campaigns.
