Job summary

Carter Lumber is seeking a Yard Supervisor who will blend administrative duties with active yard management. You will hire, train, and discipline staff, assist customers, and ensure efficient material loading and delivery.

The role emphasizes safety, inventory control, and keeping equipment well maintained in a busy lumber yard environment. The position combines office tasks with hands-on yard work, requiring strong leadership, teamwork, and familiarity with building materials.

Qualifications

• Previous supervisory experience in customer service, preferably in a lumber yard.
• Dispatch experience is a plus.
• Ability to direct and train others effectively.
• Familiarity with building materials.
• Ability to be an effective team member and leader.
• Experience using Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.

Responsibilities

• Employee management, including hiring, communicating, and disciplining.
• Set a positive example for lumber yard employees to mirror.
• Assist customers with selection and loading of materials with a friendly attitude.
• Pull and stage material for pickup and delivery; help with dispatching and scheduling.
• Maintain inventory in the yard; conduct cycle counts and keep the yard organized.
• Ensure all yard policies are followed, including sales, inventory, and safety.
• Maintain all equipment and scheduling vehicle service.
