Job summary

Ace Hardware in Corbin, KY is hiring for a Lumber Yard Associate. You will unload incoming trucks, stock outdoor products, assist customers, and ensure they receive exactly what they paid for.

You will work with the store team and follow the “Speed is Life” mindset to keep the yard organized and safe. Ideal candidates have stocking experience in a warehouse or lumber yard, and are comfortable operating a forklift or driving a truck.

Qualifications

• Experience in stocking in a warehouse or lumber yard setting is preferred.
• Experience in forklift operation and/or commercial truck driving is preferred.
• Able to communicate professionally with customers and team members.
• Skilled at providing prompt, friendly, attentive customer service.
• Strong organizational skills with a passion for details.

Responsibilities

• Unload incoming trucks, stock lumber yard and outdoor products.
• Load customer purchases into vehicle with accuracy.
• Support daily store operations with urgency and attention to detail.
• Collaborate with team and participate in daily huddles.
• Deterrent to shoplifting and provide excellent customer service.
• Engage customers with friendly, knowledgeable help and recommendations.
• Participate in in-store communications and initiatives.
• Assist customers with complaints and involve a manager as needed.
• Greet customers within five feet and maintain polite, attentive service.
• Wear radio and communicate with associates effectively.
• Assist in training peers.

Position Summary

Upholds the Core Values as determined by the management team. Primary responsibility for all positions with W.D. Bryant Ace Hardware is to Amaze Every Customer Every Time. Lumber yard associates are responsible for engaging the customer, ensuring they receive everything they purchased promptly and professionally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Help unload incoming trucks, stock outside products in Lumber Yard and outbuildings, and bring store merchandise to the store.
• Load customer purchases in their vehicle using their Loading Ticket to make sure they receive exactly what they paid for, nothing more or less.
• Execute the daily operational, day-to-day goals and priorities assigned by store management displaying a “Speed is Life” attitude. Move with a sense of urgency while paying attention to the details.
• Cooperate with others and work well as part of a retail team, for example actively participate in daily huddle meetings, and share ideas for improvement with management.
• Watch for shoplifters and act, in line with company policy, that will discourage shoplifting. Excellent customer service and interaction prevents shoplifting.
• Provide the best possible experience for Every Customer, Every Time by being helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly.
• Actively participate in in-store communication and initiatives (e.g., Communication Board, Daily Huddle, store contests, etc.)
• Assist Customers with simple complaints/concerns; get a manager involved with problems as needed.
• Use the Five Foot Rule – always greet and/or acknowledge all customers within five feet of you.
• Always be polite and attentive to customers. Make eye contact and smile. Do not avoid customers.
• Always wear your radio to effectively communicate with other associates or management.
• Assist in the training and development of peers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience in stocking in a warehouse or lumber yard setting is strongly preferred.
• Experience in forklift operation and/or commercial truck driving is preferred.
• Able to communicate professionally with customers and team members.
• Skilled at providing prompt, friendly, and attentive customer service.
• Strong organizational skills with a passion for details
• Proven track record of being a team player.
• A continuous pattern of regular and prompt attendance is required.
• Availability must be flexible, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

The minimum physical requirements for this position include:

• Ability to stand for an extended period, walk, reach, and bend to perform job duties.
• Move and handle merchandise of 80+ pounds for continuous periods of time
