Job summary

Zip O Log Mills Inc. seeks a Green Chain Grader to visually inspect and grade lumber as it moves through the Green Chain.

You will identify defects, verify dimensions, and mark lumber to meet grading requirements while coordinating with chain pullers and supervisors to maintain efficient production. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Understand fundamentals of sawmill operations.
• Knowledge of lumber grades and quality requirements.
• Ability to grade lumber quickly in a production environment.
• Follow safety procedures and keep work area organized.

Responsibilities

• Grade lumber on the Green Chain by visually inspecting surfaces for grade and quality.
• Verify dimensions using tape measure and size gauge; ensure on-size product.
• Mark lumber according to grading requirements and communicate loads with chain pullers.
• Monitor lumber quality and sizes; report mis-sorts or quality concerns to supervisor.
• Resaw low-grade lumber as needed and maintain a safe, clean work area.
