Job summary

Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction in El Paso, TX is seeking an Equipment Mechanic to diagnose and repair heavy equipment and vehicles. You will perform routine maintenance, operate machines for repairs, and assist with tool maintenance under the Shop Manager’s direction.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, at least 1 year of field repair experience, and a valid CDL. The role demands lifting 50–100 lbs and standing for long periods, with safety and efficiency emphasized in daily tasks.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent; 1+ year experience on heavy equipment.
• Minimum 1 year experience with diesel, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• At least 1 year of field repair experience.
• Ability to lift 50–100 lbs and stand for long periods.
• Valid CDL is required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair/ rebuild equipment as directed by the Shop Manager.
• Repair vehicles and equipment according to schedules.
• Perform routine maintenance of equipment and vehicles as needed.
• Operate construction equipment to perform repairs.
• Weld small items not requiring a certified welder.
• Maintain daily logs in a timely, organized fashion.
• May drive Lube Truck to fuel and service equipment.
• May drive company pickup to obtain parts.
• Assist with small tool and equipment maintenance.
• Seek knowledge of new technologies used in truck maintenance.
• Recommend safety and production improvements to the Shop Manager.

Position Description

• Diagnose and repair/rebuild all equipment and vehicles as determined by the Shop Manager.
• Repairs vehicles and equipment according to schedules.
• Perform routine maintenance of equipment and vehicles as needed and on time.
• Operate construction equipment and vehicles in order to repair.
• Perform miscellaneous welding to repair items not requiring a certified welder.
• Strive to maintain zero repeat/redo repairs.
• Clean equipment and vehicles in the process of making repairs.
• Maintain daily logs in a legitimate, timely and organized fashion.
• May drive Lube Truck to fuel and service equipment in personnel absences.
• May drive company pickup truck to get parts.
• Assist with small tool and equipment maintenance, repair as needed.
• Seek knowledge of new technologies/methods used in truck and equipment maintenance.
• Recommend measures to Shop Manager to improve safety, production, equipment performance and repair quality.

Position Requirements

• High school education; or up to two years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum of 1 years of experience working on heavy construction equipment and vehicles
• A minimum of 1 years of experience working with diesel fuel systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems
• A minimum of 1 years of experience performing field repairs
• Be able to physically lift 50 – 100 LBS
• Be able to regularly stand for long periods of time, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl
• Specific vision abilities are required, which includes to have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Perform mathematical problems
• Valid CDL is required.
