Job summary

Northbrook Health and Rehab is seeking a Cook to prepare and serve meals for residents in a long-term care setting. You will follow dietary plans, ensure timely service, and maintain strict sanitation standards in a busy kitchen.

The role requires experience as a cook in healthcare or a commercial kitchen, knowledge of special diets, and the ability to handle a fast-paced environment. Shift rotations and onsite work are expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience as a cook in long-term care, healthcare, or commercial kitchen is required.
• Knowledge of special diets and texture-modified meals per IDPH standards.
• Ability to read and follow recipes, production sheets, and diet orders.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
• Lift 25–35 lbs; stand for extended periods; perform repetitive motions.
• Pass background checks per IDPH requirements.
• ServSafe certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to recipes and diet plans.
• Ensure meals are prepared, portioned, and served on time.
• Maintain sanitation and safety per regulations.
• Monitor kitchen equipment and report issues.
• Assist with receiving, rotating, and storing supplies (FIFO).
• Keep kitchen and prep areas clean and safe.
• Follow infection control procedures and dietary restrictions.
• Collaborate with dietary staff to maintain meal quality.
• Participate in trainings and quality initiatives.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
