Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital is hiring a Paramedic to provide immediate medical treatment for patients with critical injuries and illnesses. You will assess, treat, and transport patients, operate ambulances, and coordinate with hospital staff to ensure seamless hand-offs.

A USDOT EVOC course must be completed within six months of hire, and Ohio EMT-P licensure is required, with 3 years of EMT-P experience or 1 year plus 4 years equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic Training Program.
• Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio.
• EVOC coursework must be completed within 6 months of hire.
• Valid Ohio Driver's License (VDL).
• Three years of EMT-P experience or one year EMT-P with four years of equivalent EMT experience; EVOC experience may substitute with required years.

Responsibilities

• Provide immediate medical assessment and treatment to injured/ill patients on-site, in the community, and during transport to hospital.
• Navigate an ambulance to the scene of an accident in response to emergency calls.
• Maintain equipment, restock supplies and clean ambulances as necessary.
• Assess the nature and extent of illness/injury and patient history from available sources.
• Determine appropriate independent or collaborative response.
• Administer appropriate emergency medical care including life support procedures and monitoring per EMS protocols.
• Communicate with hospital personnel, report observations, and hand off at hospital.
• Complete a USDOT approved EVOC course within six months of hire.

As a Paramedic, you will provide immediate medical treatment to patients presenting with various critical injuries, illnesses and concerns. In this role, fast thinking and processing are essential, as every second counts in an emergency. Your tireless efforts help improve outcomes and make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, their families and your fellow caregivers.

A caregiver in this position will work day/evening/night/weekend shifts between 7:00am and 7:00am, 3:00pm and 3:00pm, or 3:00pm and 7:00am following a 24hr-on, 48hr-off schedule.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide immediate medical assessment and treatment to injured/ill patients on-site, in the community, and during transport to hospital.
• Navigate an ambulance to scene of accident in response to emergency calls.
• Maintain equipment, restock supplies and clean ambulances as necessary.
• Assess the nature and extent of illness/injury and patient's history from available sources.
• Determine appropriate independent or collaborative response.
• Administer appropriate emergency medical care including life support procedures, decontamination protocols, fluid/drug administration, obtaining EKG readings and vital statistics monitoring in accordance with EMS protocols.
• Communicate with medical personnel at hospital, report/record observations, and follow directives until report and hand-off at hospital.
• Complete a USDOT approved Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) course within six months of hire.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic Training Program
• Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross
• Completion of a USDOT approved Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) course required within 6 months of hire. Current valid Ohio Driver's License (VDL).
• Three years of experience as an EMT-P OR one year of EMT-P and four years of equivalent EMT experience . EMT-P experience may be substituted with at least one (1) year of EMT-P experience required and a combination of equivalent EMT experience. Equivalent EMT experience would be two (2) years for each one (1) year of EMT-P experience required.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Experience in a larger metropolitan area
• Experience in the Emergency Room or Critical Care Transport

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Frequently lifts and carries items weighing over 75 pounds.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $22.00

Maximum hourly: $32.00
