Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital in Avon, Ohio, is hiring a Paramedic to provide immediate care in the Emergency Department under the supervision of an RN.

You will perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy and suctioning, initiate cardiac monitoring and oxygen therapy, and aid in transport and sterile procedures while working a night schedule 7:00 pm to 7:30 am.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic Training Program.
• Current Ohio EMTP license or credential.
• Certification in BLS, ACLS and PALS per AAC/AHA guidelines.
• Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic Training Program.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of an RN.
• Obtain and record vital signs.
• Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy and suctioning.
• Initiate cardiac monitoring and oxygen therapy.
• Notify RN/physician of rhythm changes.
• Transport patients and specimens.
• Assist with sterile procedures and equipment management.
• Handle patient mobility and comfort tasks.

As a Paramedic, you will provide immediate medical treatment to patients presenting with various critical injuries, illnesses and concerns. A caregiver in this position works nights, 7:00pm to 7:30am.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of an RN.
• Obtain and record vital signs.
• Perform EKGs, CPR and phlebotomy and oral, nasal and/or ET suctioning.
• Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy and saline locks.
• Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes.
• Apply orthopaedic appliances and simple splints.
• Size crutches and teach crutch walking.
• Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, etc.
• Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices.
• Transport patients and specimens.
• Assist with sterile procedures and cleaning/maintaining supplies and equipment.
• Perform fluid/drug administration.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic Training Program
• Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio
• Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
• Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic Training Program

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Certification
• One year of experience as an EMT-P

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $22.00

Maximum hourly: $32.00
