Job description

Job Description Summary

As an LSS Project Leader Co-op at GE HealthCare, you will practice structured, critical thinking to quickly understand problem statements, clarify desired outcomes, and synthesize actionable next steps. You will enable execution across disciplines – Product Management, Program Management, Engineering, Operations, Sourcing, Fulfillment, Regulatory, and Supplier Quality – by translating ambiguity into clear plans, risks, and decisions.

You’ll work on a variety of assignments within the Patient Care Solution - Life Sustaining Solutions (LSS) business segment that build capability in project planning, budget awareness, resource coordination, and risk management – all while ensuring scope, quality, cost, and timing goals are met. You’ll be mentored by an experienced Program Manager or Lead Program Integrator (LPI) and be entrusted to frame problems, define success metrics, and drive execution in partnership with cross-functional teams.

GE HealthCare fosters a diverse, inclusive workplace where everyone can contribute to their full potential in support of our mission to create a world where healthcare has no limits.

Job Description
Critical Thinking & Planning
  • Quickly decompose ambiguous problem statements into clear problem definitions, success criteria, and deliverables.

  • Synthesize next steps into lightweight, right‑sized project plans (e.g., milestones, owners, dependencies) and keep them current as facts change.

  • Define measurable outcomes/leading indicators; track progress and use data to inform decisions and trade‑offs.

  • Apply structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 5-Whys) to identify root causes and recommend pragmatic solutions.

Execution & Risk Management
  • Support the Program Manager to orchestrate multiple projects within a product line across LSS and partner teams.

  • Proactively manage cross-functional execution to remove blockers, clarify ownership, and avoid gaps/delays.

  • Maintain a risk/issue/decision log; anticipate integration issues and propose options with pros/cons and impacts on scope, cost, and schedule.

  • Facilitate crisp status communication tailored to audiences (team, leadership, suppliers), highlighting decisions needed, risks, and next steps.

Collaboration & Communication
  • Partner with business and technical leaders to clarify requirements, align goals, and validate acceptance criteria.

  • Prepare concise briefings (slides, one-pagers) that capture problem context, options considered, selected approach, and results.

  • Demonstrate ownership, follow‑through, and a bias for action while operating with humility and openness to feedback.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Full-time student pursuing a degree in Engineering or Business.

  • Demonstrated strong academic performance through relevant coursework, projects, research, leadership experiences, or other academic achievements.

  • Evidence of structured thinking: experience writing problem statements, defining goals/metrics, and outlining plans with owners and timelines.

  • Leadership experience in projects, teams, clubs, or community – showing ownership, collaboration, and follow-through.

  • Demonstrated initiative and results orientation; comfortable taking the first cut at plans, risks, and options for review.

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills – able to translate technical/operational details into clear, simple narratives and plans.

  • Able to work a minimum of 28 weeks (full‑time, 40 hours/week).

Desired Characteristics:
  • Strong academic performance, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

  • Prior internship or co‑op in design engineering, business, law, manufacturing, or operations.

  • Exposure to project budgeting or basic analytics (e.g., Excel/Sheets, dashboards).

  • Analytical approach to problem solving with familiarity using root‑cause tools (e.g., 5-Whys, fishbone).

  • Ability to prioritize using impact/effort thinking; comfort making structured trade‑offs and documenting decisions.

  • Proven adaptability in dynamic environments and strong stakeholder communication skills.
