Mercy is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Med 4 unit (Neuro/Renal/Urology). The role involves caring for adult medical-surgical patients with neurological, renal, and urologic conditions in a 36-bed specialty unit.

The LPN will support nursing care, monitor patients, and collaborate with nephrology and urology teams to deliver high-quality care in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate LPN program completed and eligible for licensure.
• Basic life support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
• Neurology, renal and urology patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient-centered nursing care for Neuro/Renal/Urology patients.
• Coordinate care with multidisciplinary team and monitor patient status.

Licensed Practical Nurse - Med 4 (Neuro/Renal/Urology)

Join our Med 4 team, a 36-bed specialty unit caring for adult medical-surgical patients with neurological, renal, and urologic conditions. This is a great opportunity for LPNs to grow their skills while working with a diverse patient population in a collaborative environment.

Neurology/Renal & Urology:

4200 Hall Details:

• Beds: 18
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 6:1

4300 Unit Details:

• Beds: 18
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 6:1

Patient Population

Common diagnoses include:

• Stroke and transient ischemic attacks (TIA)
• Seizure disorders and altered mental status
• Acute and chronic kidney disease
• Electrolyte imbalances
• Urinary tract infections and urinary retention
• Kidney stones and hydronephrosis
• Post-urologic procedure patients

Clinical Skills & Experience

Nurses on Med 4 frequently care for patients with:

• Foley catheters
• Nephrostomy tubes
• Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
• Dialysis access devices
• Enteral feeding tubes
• Telemetry monitoring

This unit provides valuable experience in neurological assessments, stroke protocols, fluid and electrolyte management, renal medication monitoring, and multidisciplinary care coordination with nephrology and urology specialists.

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program

Licensure

• Current LPN license in the state of practice

Certifications

• BLS required within 30 days of hire
• Additional certifications as required by the unit
