Job summary

Richmond Public Schools seeks an LPN for the Hospital Education Program School Nurse to support hospitalized students.

The nurse will work in the hospital setting (Children’s Hospital of Richmond) under the supervision of the Principal and CHoR staff, providing nursing care and education coordination for grades PK-12 with complex medical needs. Immediate start date; background screening required.

Qualifications

• LPN license required (Virginia license)
• BSN preferred
• Experience with ventilators, tracheostomies, g-tubes and acute care practices
• Excellent oral and written communications, organizational skills
• Ability to work with children, families, teachers and medical staff
• Knowledge of public school health procedures and policies
• Ability to work independently with changing priorities

Responsibilities

• Assist CHoR nursing staff to support HEP students with multiple disabilities daily
• Observe students to detect health needs and report to medical staff
• Provide daily routine care including suctioning, positioning, and feeding tube management
• Monitor ventilators and adjust oxygen as needed
• Respond to alarms and seizure activity
• Assist in transporting students within the hospital setting
• Report status of students to staff and physicians
• Adhere to hospital policies and maintain Nursing Log
• Participate in in-service training and safety obligations
• Maintain sanitary standards in the Education Department
