Job summary

Questar III BOCES is seeking a Full-Time probationary LPN to serve as a floater across school-based sites in Rensselaer, Columbia, and Greene Counties. The role provides nursing coverage in health offices or 1:1 settings, ensuring student health needs are met throughout the district.

The ideal candidate is a NY LPN with CPR/First Aid; experience with special needs children and developmental disabilities is preferred.

Qualifications

• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification would be preferred.

About

Questar III BOCES announces a vacancy for a Full-Time probationaryNurse to work as a floater for our school-based sites throughout Rensselaer, Columbia & Greene Counties. This position will provide coverage for nursing services in either a health office or 1:1 setting.

Responsibilities

• Direct Nursing Care: Provide routine and specialized nursing care, including G-tube feedings, tracheostomy care, catheterization, and basic wound care as outlined in student healthcare plans.
• Medication Administration: Safely administer oral, inhaled, and topical medications to students according to physician orders and established protocols.
• Health Monitoring: Monitor students for signs of medical distress, seizure activity, or changes in baseline health status, reporting concerns immediately to the RN.
• Emergency Assistance: Assist the RN in responding to medical emergencies, including the administration of emergency medications (e.g., Diastat, EpiPen) when necessary.
• Physical Support: Assist with the safe positioning and transferring of students with physical disabilities to prevent skin breakdown or injury during school hours.
• Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate, up-to-the-minute logs of treatments, medications administered, and any health-related incidents.
• Collaboration: Communicate effectively with teachers and 1:1 aides regarding a student’s daily health needs or any temporary medical restrictions.

Requirements:

• Current, valid New York State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License.
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification would be preferred.
• Preferred candidates will have experience working with special needs children with various developmental disabilities. Prior experience in Pediatrics, School Nursing, or working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
