Job summary

Penn State Health is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Middletown office. The role involves a mix of clinical and clerical duties with day shifts (4x10-hour days, 7a-5:30p preferred) in a multi-specialty setting near Hummelstown.

The selected candidate will support patient care, rooming, specimen collection, and coordination with providers, while maintaining communications with patients and the care team.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care under RN/physician supervision.

• Assist providers with in-house procedures and documentation in medical records.
• Perform routine clerical duties: monitor messages, stock rooms, answer patient calls.
• Communicate with care team to coordinate patient care and scheduling.
• Commit to ongoing learning and quality improvement activities.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Penn State Health Medical Group – Middletown office is located minutes outside of Hummelstown and sees, on average, 150-180 patients a day. This office houses several specialties including: Adult and Pediatrics Rheumatology, Neurology, GI, Dermatology, Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), Bariatrics and Family Medicine.

Operating on a day-time schedule during the weekday, the selected LPN will have a mix of clinical and clerical duties to oversee. In the clinical capacity, you will be preparing rooms and rooming patients, conducting quality/point-of-care labs, and assisting providers with in-house procedures. As far as clerical duties are concerned, you will be monitoring messages from patients and providers, stocking rooms, and assisting with phone calls from patients. Middletown is seeking an LPN who is a strong communicator and works both independently and in a team setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES- The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

• Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of patients under the direction of a registered nurse/physician according to the Pennsylvania Nurse Practice Act, and established institutional and unit policies.
• Observes, reports and records medical information and nursing care provided in the medical record and/or electronic medical record.
• Administers medications in accordance with policy and procedures.
• Instructs patients and families according to the teaching plan overseen by a Registered Nurse/Physician.
• Communicates with the healthcare team to facilitate the coordination of individualized patient care. Works with manager to ensure timely management of phone messages, e-messages, forms completion, etc. and in congruence with organizational policy.
• Improves and maintains professional knowledge and skills by attending and integrating new knowledge obtained through in-service, continuing education, and programs to include both written and verbal communications.
• Participates in problem-solving, planning and improvement of patient care activities including, but not limited to assisting in research, quality improvement and evidence based practice activities.
• Initiates appropriate measures in emergency situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

• Currently licensed to practice as a licensed practical nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate LPN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required prior to completion of orientation.
