Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct nursing care to residents and to supervise the day‑to‑day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Such supervision must follow current Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, and be in accordance with the Director of Nursing’s directives to maintain the highest degree of resident function, self‑care, and independence.

Benefits

• Sign‑on bonuses for new hires meeting eligibility criteria—full‑time status, scheduled 12‑hour night shifts (7:00p.m.–7:00a.m.), and good standing. Total bonus: $5,000 distributed as $1,000 after 90 days, $1,500 at six months, and $2,500 after one year.

Responsibilities

1. Provide direct resident care according to established standards of care.
2. Assume charge position, directing nursing assistants and ensuring policies and procedures are applied in nursing care.
3. Perform routine charting duties in accordance with charting and documentation policies.
4. Order and prepare medications from the pharmacy, and administer them following all local, state, and federal guidelines.
5. Identify problems and implement planned changes to improve nursing care; inform the Director of Nursing regarding staffing needs and develop assignments for CNAs.
6. Make rounds with physicians, inform nursing personnel of admissions, discharges, transfers, condition changes, and independently make decisions concerning nursing care.
7. Participate in maintaining infection control and quality assurance programs; ensure personnel follow infection control policies.
8. Maintain adequate stock levels of medications, supplies, and equipment and use them efficiently to avoid waste.
9. Participate in developing resident care plans, updating, and providing revisions as needed; keep nursing assistants informed of goals and approaches.
10. Monitor nursing care to assure residents’ rights are upheld; ensure personnel are knowledgeable of each resident’s rights.
11. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

• Valid and current R.N. or L.P.N. license in the State of Florida.
• Ability to write, read, and speak English.
• Current and valid CPR certification.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Ability to speak English understandably.
• Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
• Ability to see and hear or use prosthetics that allow adequate functioning.
• Ability to function independently, with flexibility, personal integrity, and effective collaboration with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
• Good general health and emotional stability.
• Ability to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• No communicable diseases.

Experience

• Previous long‑term care experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines related to long‑term care.
• Leadership and supervisory ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non‑professional personnel.
