Job summary

Missouri Department of Mental Health is seeking Licensed Practical Nurses for the St. Louis Forensic Treatment Center in a mid-level nursing role. The position involves direct bedside care, wound and tracheal care, medication administration, and collaboration with RNs on unit operations.

Qualifications

• Possession of a current license to practice as a LPN in Missouri.
• One or more years of experience as an LPN in a hospital, institution or health care facility.

Responsibilities

• Perform mid-level LPN duties including wound care and tracheal care.
• Provide bedside care including feeding and personal hygiene assistance.
• Take and record vital signs, draw labs, and monitor patient conditions.
• Counsel direct care staff on medication administration as needed.
• Assist RN or higher-level LPN on unit; review care records and provide instructions.
• Prepare, administer, and chart medications under physician orders and supervision.
• Prepare nursing assessments and health care plans.
• Instruct patients on basic personal health care and preventative care.
• Review discharge orders and consult with primary doctor as needed.
• Attend medical appointments with patients.
• Complete assessments for injuries, falls, neurology checks, and tube feedings.
• Assist with patient admissions and participate in care planning.
• Complete nursing duties with minimal instruction; work reviewed via reports and inspections.
