Licensed Practical Nurse - Endoscopy and Surgery
SURGERY/ENDOSCOPY LPN MAIN FUNCTION:
Scrubs and assists the RN and other health care team members during surgical and endoscopic procedures. Assists in the care, preparation and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile equipment and supplies.
MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:
- Active license in the State of Ohio
- Maintain a current AHA (American Heart Association) Healthcare Provider BLS card
Must be able to respond to the hospital within 30 MINUTES or be willing to stay on site while on call.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Department Director, Clinical Manager, Charge Nurses
Operations
- Verifies correct sponge, tape, needle, and instrument according to procedure.
- Assists the RN in receiving the patient in operating room or procedure room, checks patient identity and chart to assure all necessary information has been completed.
- Assists RN in assessing patient's physical and emotional needs according to the patient'sageand development.
- Assembles necessary supplies and equipment andascertainsall are in working order.
- Assistsin properly positioning patient on operating table and preparing the operative site.
- Using sterile technique, properly dons sterile gown and gloves, and technique sets up table with instruments and supplies according to procedure.
- Gowns and gloves members of the surgical team according to procedure.
- Assiststhe surgeon and/or assistant during the operative procedure, anticipatingthe needs of the surgeon.
- Cleans and checks scopes and instruments according to procedures.
- Assistphysician with Endoscopy procedures and Surgical cases.
- Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate corrective action.
- Applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and ability to translate it into patient care.
GENERAL LPN MAIN FUNCTION:
Provides nursing care to patients in an efficient, competent, and caring manner. Works under the
direction of an RN and within the Nurse Practice Act to provide care via the applicable portions of the
Nursing Process. Communicates effectively with patients, support person(s) and other members of
the health care team. Acts in compliance with the hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
Follows WCH Nursing Philosophy and practice model which are derived from the Synergy model and
appropriate Service Standards as outlined in Employee Handbook.

- Maintains appropriate clinical skills:
- Administers care according to WCH/unit policy/procedure current standards of care and OhioNurse Practice Act:
- Under direction of RN, performs data collection and documentation relevant to patient's condition,needsand age, per nursing documentation guidelines.
- Communicates changes inpatient condition toRNin timely manner.
- Reviews plan of care developed by RN.
- Under direction of the RN, providesage-appropriatehealth teaching related to diagnosis,patient/family need, and medication using available teachingresources.
- Work habits are consistently adjusted to accommodate multiple responsibilities and areprioritized and completedin a timely manner.
- Effectivelyutilizestime management and organizationalskills.
- Other duties as assigned by management team.
- Correctlydemonstrates use of electronic MAR to document medication administration.
- Demonstrates knowledge of drug purpose and effectiveness as related todiagnosis.
- Follows 6 rights of medication administration (6th is right documentation)
- Demonstrates appropriate/safe medicationhandling.
- Reassesses and documents effectiveness ofmedication.
- Participates, in conjunction with the RN,in huddles andpatient rounds to:
- Evaluate the environment to assure safety & infection control standardsmet.
- Evaluate the care provided according to standards andevidence-based practice .
- Evaluate the educational plan and its implementation, assessing for gaps incare.
- Evaluate for any additional /alternative care needs, and patient/familysatisfaction.
- Evaluate adherence to documentation of care:
- Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity. Able to multitask and prioritize workload.
- Demonstrate reasonable and rational judgment in decisionmaking.
Monday to Friday with weekday, weekend, and holiday call rotation
40 hours a week plus call
