Job summary

Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services in Angola, LA is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join the Nursing Department at the state penitentiary. You will provide direct patient care to inmates, under RN or senior LPN guidance, and contribute to a professional, secure healthcare team.

Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care, including comfort, hygiene, safety, nutrition, and overall well-being, under RN or senior LPN guidance.
Monitor and assess patients, promptly reporting changes in physical or mental status to the healthcare team.
Collect specimens, perform diagnostic tests, and accurately record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure).
Administer medications and treatments safely, following established protocols and documenting care accurately.
Participate in shift handovers, ensuring continuity of care and clear communication with the team.
Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, maintaining safety and efficiency.
Respond to emergencies, including performing CPR and first aid as needed.
Manage inventory and supplies, requesting and restocking medications and equipment to support patient care.
