Job summary

Montefiore School Health Program is seeking an LPN to support student health at Gompers High School in the Bronx. The role focuses on preventive care, chronic disease management, and urgent needs within a school-based setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED minimum.
• Current New York State LPN License & Registration.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• Infection Control Certificate.
• Effective written, oral, and interpersonal English communication skills.
• Must complete fingerprinting for DOE and Justice Center Security Clearance.
• OHS Annual Assessment & Fit Test.
• Alternate Work Schedule: 6 weeks off in summer; September through June with prorated compensation.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care: provide clinical care to pediatric/adolescent students under RN supervision.
• Clinical Tasks: administer medications, treatments, and procedures within LPN scope; venipuncture when appropriate.
• Student & Family Education: deliver clear teaching and discharge instructions.
• Safety & Compliance: maintain infection control and safety; document care in the EHR.
• Collaboration & Flexibility: work with RNs and school staff to adapt to daily workflow.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care: Provide direct clinical care to a pediatric and adolescent student population under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Clinical Tasks: Safely administer medications, treatments, and procedures within the LPN scope of practice; collect specimens and perform selected diagnostic tests (including venipuncture).
• Student & Family Education: Deliver clear patient/family teaching and discharge instructions tailored to the student’s developmental and cultural needs.
• Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe environment by adhering to infection control, safety, and disaster policies; document all care, interventions, and observations accurately in the electronic health record.
• Collaboration & Flexibility: Partner with RNs and school staff to resolve patient care issues, manage competing demands, and adapt smoothly to the changing daily workflow of a school environment.

• Alternate Work Schedule: Enjoy 6 weeks off in the summer! This position operates from September through June while school is in session, with prorated compensation to match the academic calendar.

Associates are eligible to apply for a lateral transfer after completion of one (1) year of service in their present position, with the following exception: an Associate who has received a written warning is not eligible for a transfer/promotion prior to six (6) months from date of issuance; an Associate who has been suspended is not eligible for transfer/promotion prior to one (1) year from suspension. Part-time Associates who have completed their probationary period can move to full-time vacancies within their department provided such movement will not unreasonably reduce the operational efficiency of that department. Probationary period is three (3) months for full-time employees, and four (4) months for part-time employees who works more than 3/5 of the normal workweek.
