Job summary

Kettering Health Hamilton is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for night shifts in a full-time capacity. The LPN will provide direct patient care under supervision, support medication administration, accurate documentation, and adherence to safety and infection control standards.

Qualifications include graduation from an accredited LPN program, an active OH LPN license, BLS certification, and experience in acute care or clinical settings. IV therapy certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administers nursing care within the LPN scope as directed by RN or physician.
• Administers medications per physician orders and policy.
• Observes, monitors, and documents patient conditions and changes.
• Assists patients with ADLs such as bathing, dressing, feeding, mobility.
• Collects specimens for lab testing and assists with basic diagnostics.
• Participates in care plan development with the healthcare team.
• Provides education to patients and families on meds and self-care.
• Applies infection control and safety measures to protect patients.
• Maintains timely documentation in EHR and records.
• Supports unlicensed staff as delegated by RN.
• Responds to emergencies within scope of practice.

Responsibilities & Requirements

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct, compassionate nursing care to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician, supporting patient safety, comfort, and recovery. This role assists with medication administration, monitoring, and documentation while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and infection control protocols. Performs other duties as assigned. All job responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.

Preferred Qualifications

Required Education:

Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program

Preferred Work Experience:

Experience in an acute care or clinical setting.

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:

Current, valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Ohio.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:

IV therapy certification.

Essential Functions

Administers nursing care and treatments to patients within the LPN scope of practice and as directed by a registered nurse or physician.

Administers medications, including oral, topical, rectal, and injectable forms, following physician orders and organizational policy.

Observes, monitors, and documents patient conditions, reporting significant changes to supervising RN or provider.

Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support.

Collects specimens for laboratory testing and assists with basic diagnostic procedures as ordered.

Participates in the development and implementation of individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.

Provides education and instructions to patients and families regarding medications, treatments, and self-care as appropriate.

Applies infection control and safety measures to protect patients, visitors, and staff.

Maintains accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) and other required records.

Provides guidance and support to unlicensed assistive personnel (UAPs) as delegated by the supervising RN.

Responds to emergencies and assists with resuscitation or urgent interventions within scope of practice.

Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA and organizational privacy policies.
