Job summary

Mercy is seeking an LPN for our Ortho-Neuro Unit, a 24-private bed unit caring for orthopedic, stroke, and neuro conditions. You will work with a team of educators, PCAs/PCTs, Case Managers, therapists, and more to ensure comprehensive patient care under supervision of licensed staff.

The role includes NIH Stroke Certification opportunities. Minimum qualifications include graduation from an accredited practical nursing program and an active LPN license in the hiring state.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
• LPN license required; must meet state board requirements.
• Certifications may be required based on unit/position (ACLS, PALS, PEARS, STABLE, BLS) or be obtained within designated timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care under supervision of an RN or licensed clinician.
• Coordinates patient care with other departments and healthcare professionals.
• Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of information.
• Performs duties within scope of practice and adheres to unit standards of care.

Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care under the supervision of person(s) licensed by a State regulatory board to prescribe medication and treatment, or under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse (RN). Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients. Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information.

Position Details:

Our Ortho-Neuro Unit is a 24-private bed unit that cares for orthopedic (both surgical and non-surgical), stroke and a wide variety of neurological conditions. Our Nurses work on a support team of educators, PCA/PCT's, Case Managers, Respiratory Therapists, Dieticians, PT/OT and Speech Therapists. You will have the opportunity to receive your NIH Stroke Certification.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program; Consideration will be given for comparable education experience and successful licensure.

• Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining and maintaining a current LPN license within the hiring state in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all State Board of Nursing requirements.

Certification(s):

NOTE: one or more of the certifications below may be required based on the position/unit hired to, or acquisition of certification within department required timeframe:

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

• PEARS (Pediatric Assessment Recognition and Stabilization)

• S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, And Emotional Support) Six Assessment & Care Modules

• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.

• LPN-IV Certification must be previously completed or successful completion of course within 3 months of hire for LPNs in Missouri.

• Other unit-specific certifications as required.

Physical Requirements:

• Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.

• Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.

• Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
