Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and organize the daily care of individuals to ensure consistent service delivery.
  • Make care assignments and assist in creating treatment plans with clinical staff.
  • Provide direct observation to ensure safety and therapeutic engagement.
  • Direct staff to coordinate workflow and communicate problems to supervisors.
  • Complete required nursing documentation and reports.
  • Provide orientation and support to staff on the unit.
  • Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of individuals' status from admission to discharge.
  • Administer medications and treatments per facility policies.
  • Develop and implement nursing care plans for medical problems.
  • Supervise medication administration and observation notes for staff.
  • Educate individuals and families about medications and treatment goals.
  • Respond to EMS and emergencies to maintain safety.

Residing on 88 acres on the east side of Evansville, Ind., our facility provides medical treatment for chronic mental illness and substance abuse disorders from our dedicated team of psychiatrists and advanced practice professionals. Active Treatment helps our patients achieve their goals directed towards living in the most non-restrictive environment possible.

Our team of professionals assist our patients in the treatment process involving medical staff, nursing, psychology, social work, rehabilitation therapy and our community integration program. Evansville State Hospital continues to maintain accreditation through The Joint Commission as an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital as well as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services certification as a Psychiatric Medicare/Medicaid Hospital.

A Day in the Life:

Program Administration Support

  • Prioritize and organize the daily care of individuals to ensure consistent and effective service delivery.
  • Make care assignments and assist in creating treatment plans in collaboration with other clinical staff to meet individual needs.
  • Provide direct observation of individuals with specific monitoring situations (e.g., line-of-vision or one-on-one precautions) to ensure safety and therapeutic engagement.
  • Direct support staff to coordinate workflow and communicate problems to unit supervisors to maintain smooth operations.
  • Complete required documentation of nursing notes, transfer forms, and other records to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Provide orientation and support to staff on the unit to maintain continuity and quality of care.

Program Management Support

  • Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of individuals' physical and psychosocial status from admission to discharge to inform care decisions.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to state-operated health care facility policies and procedures to support recovery and wellness.
  • Develop and implement nursing care plans for acute medical problems to address evolving needs.
  • Complete medication administration supervision monitors and clinical observation notes for support staff to ensure compliance and quality
  • Educate individuals and family members regarding medication, procedures, and treatment goals and objectives to promote understanding and engagement.
  • Respond and intervene in emergency situations and with agitated individuals to maintain safety and therapeutic environment.
  • Ensure proper safety and infection control standards are met for the unit to protect staff and individuals.

What You'll Need for Success:

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

A degree is not required. However, a current Indiana license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse, maintained CPR certification, and ongoing completion of required behavioral intervention training are required.
