Job summary

La Jolla Country Day School is seeking a collaborative, thoughtful educational leader to join our Lower School leadership team as Assistant Head of Lower School for the remainder of the 2026-2027 academic year. This role helps shape the holistic student experience, bringing together academic programming, student life, co-curricular experiences, faculty development, and strong partnerships with families.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in education, educational leadership, or related field preferred.
Experience as a dean, department chair, team lead, or similar leadership role in an independent school or comparable setting is preferred.
Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate teaching practices.

Responsibilities

Lead daily life and operations of the division, fostering a mission-aligned learning environment.
Develop and implement division priorities, policies, and procedures.
Coordinate academic scheduling, enrollment, and planning processes.
Maintain the division master calendar and coordinate events.
Communicate programs, expectations, and guidelines clearly to students, families, and faculty.
Collaborate with Middle/Upper School to ensure alignment across divisions.
Support curriculum development and instructional practices that align with the school's mission.
