Job summary

High Mowing School is seeking a Lower School Assistant Teacher to join our collaborative faculty for 2026-27, working with first through third grades. The assistant will support lead teachers, engage young students in a warm Waldorf classroom, and help implement class activities and routines.

The ideal candidate has experience with early childhood or elementary settings, demonstrates dependability and flexibility, and is enthusiastic about Waldorf education.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young children in early childhood or elementary settings.
• Certification or credentials in education are preferred.
• Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs is a plus.
• Creative and enthusiastic approach to teaching in a Waldorf classroom.
• Ability to collaborate closely with the lead teacher and classroom team.

Responsibilities

• Assist lead teacher with whole class activities, small group support, and individual students.
• Contribute to a caring, warm Waldorf learning environment for grades 1–3.

High Mowing School is looking for an individual to join our experienced and collaborative faculty as a Lower School Assistant Teacher, working with first through third grades for 2026-27. The Lower School assistant works closely with the lead class teachers and a team of experienced colleagues to provide a caring and warm Waldorf experience for our youngest grades students.

In 2017, Pine Hill Waldorf School merged with High Mowing School, creating a thriving, integrated preschool-12 school that offers students, families, and teachers more opportunities. The Parent Association is actively leading an engaged parent body interested in supporting teachers and families.

HMS is centrally situated on a hilltop among rolling farmland in scenic southern New Hampshire, spanning over 300 acres. The Town of Wilton is only 1-3 hours away from a variety of experiences in any direction — the big city in Boston, MA; camping and incredible foliage in central NH; the charming New England seacoast in Portland, ME, or Cape Cod, MA; or great skiing and shopping in Burlington, VT. Travel a bit further to Montreal in Quebec, Canada, for a weekend with an international feel.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is experienced in working with children in early childhood and/or grades school settings. Certification or other educational credentials preferred. Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs is a plus. Creative and enthusiastic, they enjoy serving the learning needs of elementary aged children and seek a school with a strong vision, energetic colleagues, and clear leadership. The assistant role will work with the whole class, small groups and individual students.

Dependability, flexibility, and the ability to joyfully collaborate with the lead teacher are key attributes to the candidate’s success.
