South Carolina Department of Environmental Services seeks an Area Director to lead the Beaufort Lowcountry Office, guiding a multidisciplinary team across air, land, and water programs while coordinating with partners at local, state, and federal levels to ensure effective agency action.

The role emphasizes strong communication, sound judgment, and staff development to align with agency goals and deliver responsive environmental protection in the region.

Qualifications

• A master's degree in the natural or physical sciences, public health or related technical field and five years of environmental experience.
• A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical science, public health or related technical field and six years of environmental experience.
• Degrees in related technical fields should be recognized by CHEA.

Responsibilities

• Lead, direct, and coordinate Beaufort regional staff across air, land, and water programs.
• Ensure staff receive training, guidance, and support to perform duties.
• Provide technical guidance to city/county/state/federal officials and the public.
• Represent SCDES at meetings and coordinate agency responses.
• Contribute expertise to program planning, strategy, and policy matters.
• Conduct investigations and support emergency operations readiness.
• Oversee administrative duties and ensure policy compliance.
• Perform additional duties to support agency operations.
