Job summary

SelecTransportation Resources, LLC. in Houston is seeking a Low Voltage Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair low-voltage systems, including security cameras, access control, and network cabling.

You will support new installs, service calls, and system upgrades, reading plans, testing cables, and documenting work while following safety procedures and company standards. Responsibilities include terminating and labeling cables, routing through ceilings, installing IP cameras

Qualifications

  • Experience with low-voltage cabling, security cameras, or structured network cabling preferred.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking, switches, patch panels, PoE devices, and network drops.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, cable testers, tone generators, ladders, and basic troubleshooting equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate or become certified to operate boom lifts, scissor lifts, and forklifts.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment, work above ceilings, climb ladders, and perform physical installation work.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to complete clean, professional installations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, test, and label low-voltage cabling and related wiring.
  • Pull and route network cables through ceilings, walls, conduits, cable trays, and pathways.
  • Install and service security camera systems, including IP cameras, NVRs, mounts, and cabling.
  • Install and support access control systems, including card readers, door contacts, and electric strikes.
  • Troubleshoot low-voltage systems, network connections, cameras, APs, and access control devices.
  • Read floor plans, wiring diagrams, work orders, and project instructions.
  • Perform cable testing, tone tracing, and continuity checks.
  • Safely operate lifts, ladders, and other equipment for installations.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain clean, organized work areas.
  • Document completed work, labels, device locations, results, and service notes.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, project managers, customers, and vendors.

Description


The Low Voltage Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing low-voltage systems, including security cameras, access control systems, structured cabling, and network infrastructure. This role supports new installations, service calls, and system upgrades while ensuring all work is completed safely, neatly, and according to company standards.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Install, terminate, test, and label low-voltage cabling, including Cat5e, Cat6, fiber, coaxial, and related wiring.

  • Pull and route network cables through ceilings, walls, conduits, cable trays, and other pathways.

  • Install and service security camera systems, including IP cameras, NVRs, mounts, cabling, and related equipment.

  • Install and support access control systems, including card readers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, electric strikes, magnetic locks, and control panels.

  • Troubleshoot low-voltage systems, network connections, cameras, wireless access points, and access control devices.

  • Read and follow floor plans, wiring diagrams, work orders, and project instructions.

  • Perform cable testing, tone tracing, continuity checks, and basic network troubleshooting.

  • Safely operate boom lifts, scissor lifts, forklifts, ladders, and other equipment required to complete installations.

  • Follow all safety procedures when working at elevated heights, around equipment, or in active work areas.

  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.

  • Document completed work, cable labels, device locations, test results, and service notes.

  • Coordinate with supervisors, project managers, customers, vendors, and other trades as needed.


Requirements:


  • Experience with low-voltage cabling, security cameras, access control, or structured network cabling preferred.

  • Basic understanding of IP networking, switches, patch panels, Power over Ethernet devices, and network drops.

  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, cable testers, tone generators, ladders, and basic troubleshooting equipment.

  • Ability to safely operate or become certified to operate boom lifts, scissor lifts, and forklifts.

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment, work above ceilings, climb ladders, work at elevated heights, and perform physical installation work.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to complete clean, professional installations.

  • Ability to follow safety procedures and company policies.

  • Valid driver’s license.


Preferred Skills


  • Current boom lift, scissor lift, or forklift operator certification.

  • Experience with camera systems such as Verkada, Avigilon, Axis, Hanwha, Ubiquiti, or similar platforms.

  • Experience with access control systems such as Brivo, Lenel, HID, Verkada, Kisi, or similar platforms.

  • Knowledge of cable management, equipment rack organization, patch panels, and labeling standards.

  • Ability to troubleshoot network connectivity issues related to low-voltage devices.
