Job summary

Evergreen Contractors LLC in Albuquerque, NM is seeking a Low Voltage Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair low voltage wiring and electrical equipment across projects. You will test circuits, follow plans, diagnose issues, and support security and data systems.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED and at least 2 years in a low voltage position; additional certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

  • Low voltage certifications or IT-related education are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install, test, troubleshoot, repair low voltage wiring and equipment.

  • Maintain records and assist with preventive maintenance.
  • Adhere to safety policies and vehicle rules; wear PPE as required.

Position Summary/General Description:

Low Voltage Technicians are responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing low voltage wiring and electrical equipment. The incumbent will test circuits, drill holes, repair security systems, diagnose technical issues, visit installation sites, and program security units.

  • Resolve low voltage problems impacting business, operations, or communications by creating detailed work orders. Timely updates are required up to resolution. Provide accurate information to Low Voltage Foreman on related low voltage escalated problems.
  • Provide end user training and support as needed for low voltage wiring pertaining to critical systems, data, network, and communication.
  • Perform routine duties, review low voltage work orders, exercise problem solving skills, contact and cooperate with low voltage contractors to correct high priority/impact problems. Must be able to document, as needed, knowledge base low voltage documents.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, adjust, program, and service electrical equipment; assist end users with set-up, operation a configuration changes as necessary.
  • Replace components in a variety of systems as needed; estimate time and materials for needed repairs, upgrades or equipment replacement.
  • Schedule routine preventive maintenance work and maintain accurate records and logs of such activity; requisition parts, components and supplies as required.
  • Install cable, conduit or fiber optic runs in labs, classroom and other District facilities. Work from plans, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and work orders.
  • Drive a vehicle to and from work sites, suppliers and contractors.
  • Maintain low voltage related inventory of supplies, cables, equipment considered consumable and essential to mission critical operations.
  • Escalate problems to Low voltage foreman to ensure any inconvenience to the customer is minimized and service levels are met.
  • Strictly adhere to and report any safety policies, including PPE; report violations to Lead Foreman and/or Assistant Lead and report any hazardous or dangerous condition; and evacuate from area if danger is eminent.
  • Strictly adhere to vehicle policies for use of assigned trucks and van.
  • Interface with all subcontractors in order to make certain that the project progresses smoothly and in compliance with the scope of work.
  • Coordinate with other trades in an ethical and professional manner and treat co-workers with integrity and respect.
  • Be a team player (e.g. work towards team goals and foster a collaborative and positive work environment; put the team first; assist coworkers; treat all coworkers with kindness, courtesy and respect; never engage in negativity; maintain openness to coaching, learning and improving; receptive to change and willingness to embrace challenges with team-spirit).
  • At all times maintain a courteous, positive and professional working relationship with all personnel and the general public (e.g. clients and vendors).
  • Work under pressure; maintain regular and punctual attendance including working odd or unusual hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED Certification required and a minimum two (2) years’ experience in a low voltage support position.
  • Must be knowledgeable of industry standards and best practices, and any applicable codes and standards to which low voltage cabling must comply.
  • Low voltage certification(s), I.T. certification(s) or I.T.-related college degree are a plus.
Licensing & Certification Recommendations:
  • One of the Following (ES-3J, ES-7J, EE98-J)
Computer Equipment, Software, and Machinery Requirements:
  • Experience in a Microsoft environment is a plus.
  • Experience in Access Control is a plus.
  • Experience in Audio/video Systems is a plus.
  • Experience in Point of sale is a plus.
Essential Physical Requirements:
  • The job requires the ability to hear, sit, stand, talk, walk, see, and repetitively use hands 51-100% of the time.
  • The job requires the ability to bend over, crouch/stoop, drive, kneel, reach overhead, and turn/twist 25-50% of the time.
  • The job requires the ability to carry and lift 1-25 lbs. 25-50% of the time.
  • The job requires the ability to push/pull 1-50+ lbs., carry 25-50 lbs., lift 25-50+ lbs., and slide/transfer 1-50 lbs. 25-50% of the time.
  • The job is performed indoors/outdoors with exposure to hot/cold temperatures, loud noises, elevated, and confined areas.
Other Requirements:
  • Must pass a pre-employment alcohol/drug screening.
