Job description

Position Summary

Our team of Procedural Service Technicians build the foundation of trust and exceptional service support. They strive for unique experiences as they perform immediate equipment servicing, identify, quote, and coordinate service offerings to meet Customer needs.

The successful incumbent performs effective on-site preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, equipment modification, and installation support on complex mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic units, primarily in a hospital environment under a highly regulated, time-sensitive setting. Our technicians provide Customers with basic information, pricing, and options, focusing on clear, proactive communication during all service phases to optimize Customer operations. This role requires high adaptability and sound judgment to changing needs and demands.

They partner with cross-functional teams (Tech Support, Engineering, Service Contract Management) and escalate issues appropriately. They utilize advanced technology platforms to meet compliance-regulatory requirements, resolve troubleshooting issues, document activities, and improve the overall Customer experience.

The incumbent demonstrates fundamental skills and competence as a Trusted Advisor to STERIS Customers in maintenance and procurement of medical devices and consumable products as part of a high-performing team. This includes successful completion of STERIS technical and Customer engagement training (Achieving One of a Kind Service).

What You'll Do as a Procedural Service Technician:
  1. Drive Customer satisfaction through proactive communication and commitment to resolving issues expediently.
  2. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on STERIS Surgical product lines, related products, and related competitive equipment safely and efficiently, including disassembling, replacing, repairing defective parts, rewiring, troubleshooting, adjusting/calibrating, and certifying equipment for use using standard and specialized tools and test equipment.
  3. Perform Customer training and in-servicing on assigned equipment, coordinating activities with DSM and Capital Account Manager.
  4. Ensure a positive Customer experience by performing installations, conversions, and start-up of custom equipment, and conducting site visits for small projects, coordinating with project managers and installers.
  5. Utilize technology (smartphone, laptop, software) to perform administrative duties, including scheduling, updating work activities, completing service reports, troubleshooting, maintaining logs, and managing tools and parts inventory.
  6. Establish and maintain effective communication with Customers, managers, support functions, and sales. Communicate scheduling and estimated times for work, respond proactively to problems, and recommend product enhancements based on knowledge and continuing education.
  7. Identify sales opportunities, recommend STERIS products/services, and communicate leads to management and sales staff, acting as a positive ambassador.
  8. Learn and adhere to hospital and operating room protocols, including all health and safety procedures.
  9. Assist with inventory procedures and resolve purchase order issues as recognized by the DSM.
The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed:
  • High School Diploma or GED with at least 4 years of work experience, including 2 years in mechanical/technical roles (e.g., mechanical, electrical, HVAC, automotive, IT).
  • Customer and team engagement experience.
  • Basic computer skills (Windows, email, mobile apps, data entry).
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet background and physical assessments for credentialing.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal hours and travel overnight as needed.
  • Ability to establish an effective home office setup.

*Associates degree, related certifications, military experience, or training in technical/mechanical areas may be considered towards experience requirements.

Pay range: $47,000 - $65,625, with potential bonuses or commissions. Pay is based on factors like experience, education, certifications, and location.
